    PWDA Valve

    IMG_20230822_110918_308[1].jpg
I have decided that the brake pipes now need to be replaced. They look like they are the original steel ones.

One seller says there are two different types of PWDA valve fitted. How can I tell the difference?

I think the body is the same but the shuttle could be different. I'm am not sure if the shuttle is interchangeable. you have to open it up to get to the shuttle.

Right - the person selling the pipe kits reckons there were two body types with the earlier one having larger ports at the front. Mine seem to be the same size outwardly - well 0.5mm difference. He suggests that I check the size of the unions which I will do tomorrow. Just odd that other sellers don't mention this.

Mine are larger for the front brakes.. Looks to me like your front ones are larger, it’s the thread on the nut not the pipe that is larger. Pretty sure the spanner you need to secure them is larger as well.

Right., thank you. If the nut is bigger it should be easy to confirm. I will look tomorrow.

Any clever ideas how to undo the end cap if it seems seized solid.
I bought a refurb kit to cure a slight leak but can't get close to undoing the bugger.

                Hi Paul,

what at are you replacing the pipes with? Copper in kit form, or are you making them all up yourself

Easier to make your own, using the old pipes as patterns, the kits are always a bit to long on some of the pipes

I have read that copper is not a good idea for brake pipes as the strength is not there, can become flexible, don’t know if this is true or not,, as most of the pipes you see are copper?? I believe you can get stainless steel ones, don’t know how easy they would be to bend into shape!!

I am using a cupro nickel kit. I also thought that pure copper is a bit soft and it is more difficult to get the unions free

Basically no such thing as copper brake pipes here over the pond, they may even be illegal.

I like the steel pipes that have been coated and baked with pvf which resist corrosion and are really easy to bend as they don’t collapse like copper nickel. poly-armour is the brand I have used and I would highly recommend it.

I understand that in some countries copper is not permitted for brake pipes.

                          prefer the kunifer type.

from the picture, all the unions appear to be 1/4”

some (l.h side outlet?) had one 3/8” (larger fitting but same size pipe?) iirc.

I fell foul of this with a special chap selling on eBay. He was certain that the car had been modified… I was confident it hadn’t….. I drew a line & just made a replacement for the incorrect pipe up. Sorted…. Just took a bit of extra time
