    Oh Dear not again!

Because I haven't been well recently (but feeling much better now), I have not been out in the Stag a lot recently.
Thought I would rectify that last night as the misses and I had been invited out for a meal in Silencio about 5 miles
away, so thought we would go in the Stag. As I pulled out of the car park heard an almighty clatter from underneath
and thought I might have a serious problem. Turned out that once again the 3 exhaust support rubbers had split and
dropped my exhaust on the floor at the back. I don't know what rubber these supports are made of but they don't
seem able to cope with a warm climate as this has happened several times (but only) since I moved to Tenerife.
Rang Paddocks this morning and ordered six more rubbers which they said would be in the post this afternoon.
Hope they arrive a lot quicker than my SOC mag does (still not got April's edition).

Changing the subject we have had (and still have) a lot of stranded holidaymakers out here & Maureen and I have been
trying to help them by going on the Internet and re-booking flights for them or searching for alternatives. Some of the
Airlines websites are dreadfull and totally unhelpful, whilst others you might wonder about have been very good and most
helpful. One (non-budget) Airline in particular ( I won't mention it openly) seem to be ripping there customers off and not giving
them the correct information nor any financial help whatsover (in fact just the opposite by making them re-book and
re-book again and demanding payment up front each time to do so).

Another so called "Budget" airline that doesn't always get a good Press is re-booking passengers on new flights for free
and also giving them money for subsistence whilst they are stranded.

We have some holidaymakers who only came out for a week but now can't get back till well into May and have already
    run out of money.

I know which Airlines I will avoid in the future, and which ones I will be happy to keep flying with. The Travel companies are
just as bad and everyone (with certain exceptions) seems to be trying to pass the buck and do as little as possible.
We currently have people in our rental apartment that should have gone home over a week ago and have had as well as their
original flight cancelled, a re-booked flight with the same airline also cancelled and now had to re-book a second time, each time
having to pay in advance with a promise of a refund sometime in the future.

Fortunately they have been able to stay on in our Apartment as the next tenants of it had their outbound flight cancelled too.
Unlike the holiday companies and some of the Airlines we will not profit from their mishap and have told our stranded family of 4
they can have the Apartment until they eventually get home for just the cost of the water & electricity used etc. The ones who
were supposed to follow them in we have told they can have another week any time they like (when it is free) at no extra charge.

I have now finished my long dose of antibiotics and can now enjoy a pint again as the specialist in the Hospital when I had my
biopsy didn't say that I couldn't. The results of the biopsy I won't know until Mid May but I am not going to worry about them.
Just thought it was time I made another post on the Forum as I've quite a bit of catching up to do.

Glad to hear things are a bit better, as you say worrying doesn't help

Its good to hear you are looking after your clients I'm sure you will gain more in the long run with repeat bookings rather than a fast buck.

John, I am sure everything will be back to normal by June. I never thought about it, but maybe I should have asked Paddocks to send the new exhaust support rubbers to you to bring out instead of trusting to the post. Usually though packets & parcels arrive fairly promptly - it is only letters and magazines that seem to take ages to get here.

Do not think I could wait till June though to drive my Stag again, I am missing driving it already. Tell me - do you like reading? as I have nearlly finished writing my autobiography and I need someone to proof read it and make suggestions on how to finalise it before sending it to a Publisher. Perhaps I will leave a draft copy of it in the Apartment for when you get here, and you could read it by the Pool or in bed at night (only joking).

Off to Lanzarote for 5 days on May 1st to meet some Welsh friends there, and it will be the 4th Canary Island we have visited out of the seven main Islands. Thought about taking the Stag over on the Ferry, but it is a lot easier & cheaper to fly there, so that is what we are doing.

            Hi Terry,

Glad to hear you are feeling better.

Re the rubbers. This shouldn't stop you using the Stag. Some wire would hold it temporarily. Have you tried the local exhaust people? These rubbers were used on other cars as well as Stags and are available from most motor factors and exhaust suppliers here.

Hope your 'guests' remember your hospitality and reward you with repeat visits and plenty of 'word-of-mouth' advertising.

              Hello Terry,

all the very best for you and your health.

My (60 yrs.) experience showed that you have to aks several doctors until you get the right answer - at least as far as drinking is concerned. After some tumor surgery in 2006 I asked a couple of docs whether they would advise to drink red wine, until I found the right one, who answered: "only good one!".

As I come from a vintners' family this meant some consolation.

              Saludas, Dieter.

                Dieter,

I love red wine and used to make my own until I found out that it was one of the triggers that gave me Migraine headaches. I now have to avoid certain things , such as chocolate, cream, certain cheeses, red wine, and certain makes of Beer (like John Smiths) .

Some of the Lagers out here in Tenerife I cannot drink without getting a bad head, but the majority I can drink thank god. I have also turned to Brandy instead of Whisky as it seems to perk me up instead of giving me a headache.

One type of wine that I can drink without it giving me a headache is German wine, particularly Niersteiner or Piersporter or "Nahe" wines in a distinctive blue bottle. I can no longer find any Nahe wines in the U.K. or Spain and would love to sample a bottle again, can you get it Dieter?

Thanks for your comments, just off for a pint of "Estrella" or two before eating Dinner.

                Regards

                  Hello Terry,

Point one: I never drink beer, as my grandfather would rotate in his grave, if he knew that his grandson drank beer.

Point two: As a person from "Pfalz" I avoid any wine which is marketed by companies north of our area (Bingen etc.), as they spoilt the reputation of local wines by selling simply plonk for loads of money.

So I am willing topromise any of you to come here and taste or even buy really good local quality wines,

                  Kind regards, Dieter.
