Not exactly a new topic- speedo needle bounce

My 74 Mk 2 speedo bounces pretty much from zero up to 30 so much its impossible to read accurately. I regurarly commute to Central London with (too!) Many 20mph zones to negotiate one of these days im going to fall foul. Checked gearbox drive and no appreciable wear, cable feels smooth and its well located and no tight bends. Im assuming it is down to worn internals and looking at re-furb, any suggestions on anything else to check and a trusted service provider?

99.9% of bouncing speedo needles are down to a sticky or over lubricated speedo cable.

Pull the inner out. if it is oily.. then that is likely to be your problem.

Graphite spray and NOT 3in1 etc etc is crucial to smooth speedo operation.

With the growing number of penalties directed at the motorist I might invest in a GPS speedo or use your phone to more accurately record your speed.
