interior lights

Bought my mk1 few weeks ago now .I'm just working through few small jobs .
Non of the interior lights work . Where can I start looking for a problem plz
I'm not too electrical minded but can do some basic checks

Have a look in the Technical Section under Electrics. Three articles on interior lighting in there.

This job took some doing on my car.
Tip:- photograph the connections before undoing.

biggest issue turned out to be switch contacts (centre console) and door pins.

The footwell lamps can easily short against the centre console frame.

The mk2 tee bar lamp can easily short on the tee bar aperture.

the lamp contacts are also prone to oxidation.

frustrating job but gave great satisfaction when all were working as intended, together with the warning cluster lamps too (handbrake, choke, etc)

Those footwell lamps are absolute rubbish. I bought some new ones and they were worse so I ended up tidying and refitting the original ones. A good bit of 1970s BL engineering!!

Not sure that they are rubbish…

Try buying vw parts that fit and work…. They are 20 times the price too.

Vw parts are utter junk and cost so much more than other car parts . (Footwell lamp for a vw is over £100… lasts a few months maybe…. Not to worry…. There’s only 3 of them)

against my better judgment I just got a vw.

needed some diesel hoses.

only available as a high level assembly at £330.

only need a few inches of molded hose.

utter crap; utter rip off.

Makes 1970’s BL stuff look tremendous.

vw marketing is just genius…. Can sell £80k of unwarrantable junk. No backup.

cannot paint aluminium; ( £4K to properly repair) cannot supply an egr valve that works (£1.8k to supply and fit a bad part)
When it fails it costs a complete (unwarranted) engine at £14000!

yet still people defend v.a.g. Junk Product…
