    Fuse cover - engine bay

Interested to know others experience if they have purchased a new fuse cover for the engine bay.
mine arrived today and I’m disappointed that not only does it not hold the 3 spare fuses securely (very loose) but it also doesn’t clip onto the fuse holder well at all and is very likely to just drop off while driving.

Has anyone else had the same experience ?

Bought a nos one… was also loose.

Tightened by warming plastic & bending .

The white lettering on mine is quite scruffy looking. The new ones look rather neat and are not big money, but I have resisted the urge. After seeing this feedback I will resist a bit longer.
I guess nos are more expensive if you have luck in finding one.
I will put up with mine for a bit longer. I can just make out (or just make it up) as to what fuse is for what.

            New ones are fine.
they fall off and melt on the exhaust.

            Then you notice that.

Hopefully the melt will be in the correct place to make them tight!

A new supplier of fuse box covers has recently surfaced, so it may be that they are not correct. However, the ones that have been around for years are still available from various suppliers.
Now, regarding the fit, this was checked carefully some years ago, and the problem was identified. They are a perfect snap-on fit if the fuse box is off the car, The issue is caused by the hole in the bulkhead being slightly too small, so the lid fouls the edge of the hole if the box is not perfectly aligned with it. You have two options Try centralising the box in the hole, or use blue-tack.
I have not come across the loose fuse issue though. Are your fuses perhaps slightly narrower than others? The old ones in my car are a tight fit in the replacement lid.
              Mike.

I looked into at the electrics stage of the project car rebuild when I found that some fuses seemed loose both in the lid and the fuseholders. Some unbranded fuses in general circulation are smaller in diameter than Unipart both across the end caps (typically by 0.013 inch) and across the glass tube (typically by 0.007 inch).

Just shows what I know... My cover is secured by a screw.. I thought it was original.. It is also annoyingly difficult to screw in so left the cover off thinking Triumph has yet another flawed design.. Looks like the DPO did the mod. :-) so not a Triumph lash together..

Dazza the Stag Hi I have a MK2 which has a blade fuse box fitted I suspect during restoration back in who knows when. I've been carrying out several wiring corrections and consequently the cover has become very loose. So, I ordered a new cover from James Paddock which is fine, only it doesn't fit. I have noticed that the aperture (body cut out) for the fuse box isn't quite wide enough for the cover to clip in properly. I'm going to unship the fuse box from the inside and file out the aperture sides which will allow the cover to clip in properly. I hope this works as another cover isn't cheap!

I came to the conclusion that BL forgot to take account of the paint when sizing the aperture or the fuse box cover!

                        Just saying,

However heating the sides of the cover and adjusting it or blu tac both provide a solution to all fuse box installations

Dazza the Stag Hi I have filed out the side of my fuse box (see photos) with a small swiss file and the cover now clips in perfectly.

I had the same issue with a new replacement fuse block/cover from Rimmer. Well made, but the cover would not clip due to the issue identified by Guyfawkes. I used small magnets held in place by sticky mounting foam as a test. It seems to work so I will clean up the installation a bit.
