Does anyone one else have a specific part of component they buy whenever they see a decent one pop up on ebay etc.

Camshafts for me, I think I have about 10 of them now, I might need some therapy.

I didn't buy them but carbs also.. My friend was scrapping loads of SU's and strommies and I grabbed as many Strombergs as I saw!

Steering wheels? One in the car, another used one to cover in leather sometime, and a NOS unused one.

Once upon a time, new cams were readily available, rarely needed.

Those days have gone it seems.

Back in the day, when I didn’t need cams, Steve barrett gave me a pair FOC.

I'm pretty sure I've got a pair of NOS "performance" camshafts somewhere. A box with Piper on it seems to ring a bell.

Clutch plates. I always change them when the opportunity comes. But can't throw part worn ones away in case. Have quite a collection from various cars I have owned.

Ignition distributors and leccy ignition bits I left in a box are multiplying. Water pumps will be following that soon.

I may be interested in buying a pair of good camshafts if you can spare them. One for left of v and one for right of v. Won’t know till engine cylinder head is reassembled. Will be checking kerbside

On the subject matter, I buy “spares” I never need because they don’t fit . I bought a secondhand pair of repainted rocker covers. Don’t fit. Think they might have been for a mk1 engine. Likewise I bought a secondhand lockable petrol cap and key which thanks to Drew was never fitted. Instead I glued in a small piece of brass tubing that means I can lock the original.

On the Alvis, I never throw away any part replaced! Management can’t understand this. That includes used rubber and fibre parts.

i did fear I might need a new cylinder head following my little breakdown overlooking lake Thun. But thankfully the head has been successfully remachined.. will collect next week.

Cam covers are the same for MK1 & MK2, it's possible you bought two Dolomite 1850 covers.
