    Instrument lights lights

None of my instrument lights work. The cartwheel warning light unit works, as do the interior lights either side of the centre console, and the rear screen warning, but none of the dials. Seems unlikely that all the bulbs have gone, and it can't be an earthing issue, or the gauges wouldn't work, so is the likely culprit the rheostat(?) that dims the instrument lights? Any thoughts please? Thanks

    Usually rheostat.

    can be bypassed for checking.

originals are nla/ maybe tony white has good used.

search ‘dimmer’ there’s lots of previous about it.

at one time alternative units were available at Ld part.iirc

    just found this though

Are you any good with a multimeter? fairly easy to undo the 4 cross head screws and pull the instrument section forwards, you then get access to the spade connectors on the back of the dimmer, if there is 12v going into the dimmer via the red/black wire then it is easy enough to also test the gauges by supplying 12v feed from it to the red/white wires connected to the dimmer rheostat. The bulbs in the gauges are not bright but can be improved by cleaning them up
