    Alternator or regulator?

also, check for a blown bulb before spending any money.

12.3 volts running would tend to confirm your theory but it’s possible that it’s the regulator on the drivers side inside wing assuming yours is wired as original and hasn’t been changed to an 18acr as fitted to the mk2.

You posted earlier this week about changing your cluster lamps to LED - have you also changed the charging lamp to LED? This could adversely impact the initial excitation of the alternator as the lamp forms part of the circuit.
        Just a thought..

+1, when I changed the charging lamp to LED I needed a 270 ohm resistor in parallel to achieve exitation

            hi
no I don't change the ign bulb . but I have changed it with like for like . just incase it was blown .I quite sure the problem was there before but I didn't notice the light not on only volts where at 12 on gauge .
thats fine I can get alternator rebuilt .
but how do I check regulated first .

There are 2 replies on your other thread with suggestions on the regulator
