Yes, ask Mike. Bear in mind that "better value" can mean "cheap parts" that are not fit for purpose.. For example, there are two varieties of synchro baulk rings, one of which is much better than the other. And make sure that the rebuild kit contains all the parts needed - including a decent new layshaft.....
I think I would first open the box and find out what was actually needed, in most cases you will not need all of that kit. Plus as said you can source quality parts.
My gearbox has just come back from Sheffield Transmissions, overdrive rebuild, plus synchro problems, one washer snapped in half, the synchro components have largely been replaced. Going back in the car in the next couple of weeks together with the new to me plastic dash and rebuilt water pump. Will let folks now what I think of the gearbox rebuild when in use in the spring.
Restoring a MK2 TV8, enjoying a restomod V8 MGB and contemplating what to do with old crusty G Wagon
There was an issue with lay shafts.
The bearing grinding on the ends and bar stock size left an eccentric step which meant it wouldn’t fit.
Believe that’s been overcome now.
