    1974 Stag Autotrans fault

Original BW Auto-trans. Intermittent fault started with not going into reverese from park. Drop into D then R and all good.
Recently same issue, but now accompanied with a sound like 'a stick in the spokes of a bicycle wheel" but only in R. Sound still there even when
I put in N and roll backward down a hill.
    Oil condition and level good..
Thinking the Park pawl not properly releasing!
    Any thoughts?
    TIA

I might be inclined to check the selector rod adjustment first, 1974 should have the venerable BW35 fitted. The ROM has detail on selector rod adjustment.

OK, thanks Richard I`ll give that a go, just need to get access to a ramp, so it might be a few weeks before I can repost answer.

Just Jacked car up and laid beneath. Adjust of rod was a little out, which I corrected, but this has made no difference.
it's definitely road wheel speed affected, where in or out of R, fast the wheels turn, fast the noise.
