Electronic Ignition / V8 Roar / Air Intake pipework

I would like to fit an electronic ignition system to my stag. In general people recommend the Lumenition system with a magnetic pickup.
But I am finding it difficult to find a magnetic pickup, that fits a V8 with a LUCAS 35D8 dizzy. Does any member have any part numbers.
Also the flexible hose that is connected to the air intake and travels to the LHS of the engine and is connect to the manifold is blind at the air intake end..
Do I drill a hole at the air intake end, allowing air to the manifold, or should remove and fit an in line filter to it.
Finally we all enjoy the roar of a V8, But mine seems to annoy the dogs in the neighbourhood, is there a way of making it a little more mellow.
    Kind Regards
    Mike

Hi Mike and welcome. The lumenition is great (I’ve had it for years on various cars). It works using an optical pick up rather than a magnetic one. There’s a connection into the base plate for the sensor and an 8 bladed “chopper” on the distributor shaft. Works well although you need to check the 3 pin plug that connects the optical sensor to the power pack every now and again just to keep them clean etc.

the hose being blind isn’t an issue it deletes a warm air function that rarely worked and isn’t needed in UK.

The sound from my exhaust is quite mellow so maybe you have a problem with your system or you may have straight through sports pipes which would be louder.

Can you get pictures of the engine bay showing the hose from the servo and the exhaust.

There are two 'standard' exhausts offered for the Stag - the larger bore tailpipes are quite noticeably noisier than the smaller ones and make little difference to power output. Yes, I have measured the power, I rally my Stag and I've timed both types of exhaust on the road. Currently fitted is the smaller bore which is much easier on the ears on a long drive.

Lumenition? Yes, absolutely, it's been around for many years and the only bug is the 3-way connector between the distributor and the control unit which can become intermittent after 25 years or so. The complete kit is still available.

The Lumenition kit for the Stag comes complete with all the correct fittings for the distributor. The usual Lumenition system is optical and uses an interrupter or 'chopper' rather than a magnetic pickup.

Nothing but good experience with Lumenition, for a Triumph V8 the main module is PMA50 and the fitting kit is FK113. The manufacturer's website is http://autocar-electrical.co.uk/prod...onic-ignitions where you can find lots of information. The manufacturer doesn't sell direct but several Stag parts suppliers are retailers. I've never found any need to modify the Stag's existing coil or ballast resistor set-up.
