Spark Plug Thread Repair

I need to repair a Stag spark plug thread. I think it uses M14 x 1.25 thread.

Anyone else done this? Which kit did you use? Any problems?

Was hoping to get the car out for tomorrow

Hi Chris,

Type 'Spark Plug Thread Repair' into Google and there are several options, including videos on Youtube.

Timesert http://www.timesert.com is one I have heard of before, and it looks like one has been used on the LH head of my car.

It is possible to do it in-situ using grease on the cutter. You could shove a scrap of oily rag down the bore to catch any filings as long as you have a pair of long-nosed pliers or tweezers to pull it out again afterwards.Spin the engine over to blow any alloy filings out.

Just picked up a Helicoil kit from my local engineering co. Will have to try not to drop the tang (and swarf)into the engine!

Just finished a head refurb, and its all back now. Just taken her for a test drive. Purrs like a kitten then roars like a Stag

I am going to chance it on tomorrow's run down to Bexhill to meet up with the other Stags. Will I regret it?
