    Interior lamp peculiarities

My 1972 build Mk1½ bitsa Stag presents another peculiarity today. The T-bar mounted interior light has P/W and P/O and a black wire to chassis. The Door switches have either P/R or P/G depending on RH or LH. The interior light switch by the gearstick has P/R, P/G, P/W, P/O and two black terminals which connect to chassis. There is no positive feed anywhere. According to all the wiring diagrams I have, there should be a Purple wire at the t-bar lamp holder and to the interior light switch, and to the door switches. The interior lights were working before I dismantled the car, there must have been some magic spell which I've deleted....

I am a qualified electrician, BTW!!

what doesn't help is that the wiring diagrams in the rom are incorrect for mk2 stags

The late Mr Leyton put this together, which is much better than the interior light post on p1 of electrics in the tech section. Maybe dasadrew could merge or link them

    Good luck

Very helpful diagram. Before I start tracing the connections on my Federal MK2, a quick question: All of the interior lights seem to function correctly except that when I have one of the doors open, the console light on the opposite side of the cabin glows dimly instead of at full strength. If I open the other door as well, the lamp then increases in brightness. Is this normal?

Sounds like contact resistance/ earth resistance.
Start with console switch & door pin switches, then bulb holders.

When you open the door only the console lamp on that side lights.. the dim light you see on the other side is from the lit lamp.. it’s open at the rear and shines inside the console.. you can see it through the lamp fitting on the other side..

BTW my June 73 federal mk2 has mk1 interior light wiring.. the giveaway is that mk1 has two contacts on the door switches.

Thank you Terry. As usual, you are correct. I never thought about the light bleeding over from the other side. My car is also a June 73 build with the same Federal wiring scheme.
