Request to borrow a couple of head (beyond repair heads) Mk2 Stag

    Hi all,

Does anybody have a left and right head for a Mk2 thats beyond repair that I could borrow (possibly for several months)

I am working on a multi throttle body EFi manifold for the left and right banks

My problem is my heads are away being worked on, and they will be away for several months, and I dont have any heads on my engine to test the fitting of the manifolds I am printing.

Of course they will be returned once I get the fitment correct

My printer has been working hard all day on the prototype

    Cheers
    Kev

I’ve a spare pair - not scrap but not needed at the moment. They’re in Bristol.

      Hi Mole,

That would be great, I am in Brum so not too far to come,

They will just be lightly nipped up to the block, whenever you need them back just give me a bell and I will drop them straight back to you.

I can pop down anytime to suit you, working in the week but weekend is good if it suits

      Cheers

Hey Kev, call me, I probably already have the dimensions you maybe after.

Thanks, but I need physical heads to test fitment, I still have a lot of design to do and physically seeing what I am doing is better than looking at numbers, having said that, numbers are good in the design program.

Maybe an idea to pop over to you, can bring this manifold for you to have a look at if you are interested. There will be many changes until I have a working model, not happy with the butterflies so looking at designing a spindless butterfly system.

If you get stuck I have plenty you could use

Thanks for the offer Tony, actually, have you also got a good couple of doors for a Mk2 too, mine are pretty badly rotted both inside and out at the bottom and it may be better for my body guy to work on some that are in better condition.

I am popping down to Reading on 16th for the weekend, so could potentially pop in and pick them up

              Cheers

Given the current state of my engine, it might be better if you pick some heads from Tony - I might need mine!

                      Hi Mole,

Yea no problem, I am heading down Tony's way in a couple weeks so would work out easier for pick up, and would prefer "beyond repair" heads anyway if Tony has a couple

I have some that I don’t need back as they are scrap

                          Match to the gaskets.
Then you match your heads to the gasket.
I would if possible make each inlet manifold side split, so 4 individual manifolds, 2 per side.
This is what I have done.

When reverse engineering the details of the inlet manifold, the bolt positions measured from a sample head should be OK and are easy enough to measure. But the inlet port holes and the waterways are a problem because they are not machined, so the tolerances are wide. For that you will need to measure several samples such as heads (or inlet manifolds, but bolt holes are probably enlarged) and take the mean dimensions. Do not rely on gaskets as they are all over the place!

I managed to get an accurate schematic of the heads, so working from that, and yes, I have seen some posts about how the gaskets dont line up with the ports, I'm going to go rubber seals in the manifold rather than gaskets, and looking to weld up the waterways, will tap into the core plugs to maintain the water flow.

First print of many, after this finished I can see many issues, so going for a complete re-design, but based on the same principles,

Good job these prototypes are very cheap to print
