    Carb set up

Had a lot of grief with my newly acquired toy (money pit comes to mind). Is running very rich so I'm going through the motions of setting up from scratch.

Kryten wrote in a post about carbs "check the jet in the carb body is the same height to the bridge". Mine are both about 1/8" below the bridge (which would explain a few things) How do you move the jet? Is it just pressed in or is there a retaining screw somewhere?

    Many Thanks in anticipation. Mark.

    Hi Mark,

I think what Russ meant, was check that both jets are the same height from the bridge, not that they are the same height as the bridge.

I'm sure he will be along to confirm later...

Thank someone for that! Just tried pushing them in further in the vice and it wasn't happening. Good job I just gave it the brute force but not the ignorance.

        That was lucky!

Have a read through this, very enlightening and informative:

The jet heights are checked, as a significant difference in height will, in conjunction with float level have a huge effect on fuel flow from the jet and therefore on tuning.

If they are only fractionally different then you can compensate with your baseline needle settings.

If they are significantly different then I wouldn't trust the carbs and get some decent replacements.

            Hi Mark

Due to a telephone call with Burlen the hight from the bridge to the jet should be 2,54 mm ( 1/10"). There is no retaining screw, the jets are just pressed into the housing, but can be very tight. Mine are working fine with this distance. For adjusting you need a hammer and a piece of aluminum.
