    Oil pump removal

Hi,i know this has probably come up before but i'd like to replace the O ring seal in my oil pump but does the exhaust have to come off?looks like i could get the bolts out ok but presume the shaft in the pump will prevent me from pulling the pump out with exhaust in situ!!might put up with the leak for a bit longer if this is the case!
    thanks,Adrian

Some time since I did this & mine has the BW35 autobox fitted (can't see why any other gearbox would make a difference) and yes the front pipe does have to come off of the manifold. You do not have to remove it completely. I managed to do it by just slacking the mounts further back and, I think, the balance pipe clamp then undoing the 3 nuts on the flange finally pulling the front pipe down clear of the manifold. Gives enough room to withdraw the pump body. It is a pain but not too bad. What is more annoying is I think the oil filter bowl has to come off to get access.

Alternatively, remove the distributor. The shaft may well come out with the dizzy, but if not it is easy to pull it out with long nosed pliers. Then the oil pump should come off without disturbing the exhaust. I guess it all depends which you fear least; undoing rusty exhaust flange nuts or having to re-set the timing.

Thank's for the info, thought it would be more than just four bolts..interesting about removing the distributor to access the oil pump shaft in!!!!

It can be done without taking the exhaust off you just have to take the oil pump apart on the car and put it back the same way so it comes off in parts.

Whilst this is possible, it’s important to have the whole area scrupulously clean beforehand.

No need remove the distributor, oil pump shaft in can be put in from under side if it falls out.
