    KYB Shocks for Stag

I bought some front KYB shocks sometime back and had them delivered to my mother in UK. They are not available in the US. The rears are available in the USA as they fit a TR7 as well. Unlike the Spax which I have in my other Stag, the bottom of the strut on the KYB has some sort of inverted cup on it. I'm aware Chris Witor sells a KYB set and machines the bottom of the strut so it fits better. For those of you you have bought KYBs from other places and not modified them, did you run into any issues?
I do have a buddy who can machine them in a lathe if needed.

I entered the part number here and found this place: (Number stamped on the strut: 365048) NFI

Hi Sujit, I recently purchased kyb shocks from the same supplier as you listed above as they were a lot less money than from the usual stag suppliers.

I did consider CW's mod and thought I could do this myself with an angle grinder if necessary. I exchanged emails with Chris on the issue and he said sometimes the shock does not clamp down fully in the strut and to be prepared to use a thrust washer on top of the shock body to make it that little bit longer so you can screw it down tight in the strut. I know this sounds counter intuitive to having to do the mod. I purchased some thrust washers just in case.

I assembled both my struts without the need of the thrust washer or the mod. The screw insert went all the way to almost the last thread and clamped down the shock. I cannot detect any movement of the shock in the strut.

FYI it is advised to put some oil inside the strut before before inserting the shocks.

My original shocks had washers in the bottom to take up the slack, I removed the washers and one side fitted with no mods, the other side. needed a little taken off the bottom with a grinder..

I had to grind down the cup a little to allow the threads on the end cap to engage fully. Not a difficult job with an angle grinder.

I had no need to make any mods when I fitted mine either, I used thread locker on the top nut threads . Regards Graham
