Seems nobody knows, I've never taken the O/D off but its not easy and the only way I can think you would get enough access to even attempt it is to drop the box right down which means you will have done 70% of the work involved in getting it out. Is is definately the joint leaking, in my experience gearbox oil tends to cling and spread all over the box making the exact leak piont difficult to locate.
