Screws for head to timing cover.

Hi All, clearly I can just a put a shorter bolt in, just wondering why the ROM (and as a result Rimmers) list 1-1/4" hex screws for the four fixings through the head into to timing cover when they clearly don't need to be so long as they will protrude by about 1/2" and also are not possible to fit to the two outer holes as the head gets in the way... ? Intersting if you google the Part number LD Parts also list them as being used here as well.

The proper bolts are the just long enough with no thread protruding from the timing cover. if they are too long you won’t be able to fit them either as your photo shows.

Thanks Mike, I have looked into it and the correct bolts are 5/16 but also have a smaller head 7/16 spanner size. I guess I need to dig through all my old screws to see if I have these

You can use new 5/16 unc cap heads instead (allen / internal hex)

might need to adjust length.

Have also seen smaller screws used with nuts underside

Allen screws would be a good idea for where they are situated..
