Has anyone had a successful repair done on the windscreen pillars, if so any pics of the type of fabrication work done and any helping guidance on the job in hand,
Does this look familiar? Fortunately the pillar is constructed from 3 pressed components, on mine on the drivers side, the outer skin to which the rain gutter section is rivetted (!), had rotted through, the inner and inside sections where salvagable. I managed to get hold of a sound complete windscreen surround, cut deep into the 'a' post root, which I was able to disassemble and salvage what I needed. Not a job for the faint hearted, but if I could do it.
Paul,
On the left hand side, I wasn't so lucky the rot was more substancial requiring a more invasive surgical repair, cutting back to good metal and forming replacement steel by hand (tin bashing). Perhaps yours looks like this?
courtesy of my body shop man. I didn't get any pics of the interim stage but did see the car when the layers were pealed back and learnt some fine new swearwords from him too.
Fortunately the rust didn't go as far as the bodged DPO repair panels and therefore he did a fine job without pulling off the wing. I skim of filler saw it looking like it came out of the factory. The other side wasn't quite so bad.
