Manual gearbox J type O/D leak

Been trying to trace the source of a minor but irratating gearbox leak. Its not the output seal as i originally suspected, could be speedo drive so replaced o-ring and seal but now suspect either the rectangular filter access plate - easy fix? OR the gasket between the last casing (speedo drive case) and the O/D main case.

Question...how easy is that case just to slip back after undoing case bolts and output shaft nut and renew the gasket in-situ????

Car is currently on ramps on driveway with prop shaft, rear gearbox mount all removed. Also rear diff as im addressing input seal leak on that as well

    Thanx

To replace the casing gasket is complete dismantle of O/D, so it has to come off gearbox entirely.
Sump gasket is easy to do, oil everywhere when removed though, so messy job.

Sometimes the oil comes up the threads of
the bottom two bolts where the adapter plate is bolted to the gearbox case. Can be fixed by fitting a plain copper washer instead of a split washer, or a good dollop of thread sealant.

There should be copper washers on the two top rear casing nuts, if it's been apart someone may have just used plain steel washers.

Have you replaced the copper washer on the speedo angle drive?
Mine had that missing and was a source of a leak for years.

It fits between the angle drive and the adaptor that screws onto - very important part to stop oil leaks from that point.

Also check for copper washers on the brake ring nuts, mine leaked from those until I fitted some, I don’t remember exactly which ones as I ended up just putting copper washers on alll I could get to.. no leaks now.

                  Mike,
Could be the culprit as there wasn't one fitted when i removed it! Can't find the angle drive in Rimmers catalouge and can' t see who the supplier is from your image.

Can you tell me who your supplier was

                  Thanx

Thanks all. Hopefully the fitting of these copper washers will solve the issue
