Fitting of LD Parts secret soiler

Apologies for my stupidity, but my Stag is back after the cam follower and camshaft failure in Switzerland last summer. Really pleased but the secret spoiler previously fitted was” uninstalled” and found with old parts in the boot. Can someone please tell me how this should be fitted. I seem to remember it was held on with two plastic ties, but not the which way round.

    Thanks

It's fairly straightforward, from memory. The shorter side fits in the mouth of the opening in the front panel behind the bumper, then a cable tie on each side fastened around the bumper irons. When the cable ties are tightened, the section into the front panel opening sits about half way up it.

I'm sure Peter at LD would be happy to send you a copy of the original instructions should you wish..

If it can wait until tonight I can take a photo for you.

Before the discusion starts whether it's worth the effort bla bla bla, here is a back to back picture of the temperature reduction. Done on the same day, same stretch of road, and about an hour's difference between the two measurements. It does help (or at least helped me!)

Drew, have you checked the actual temperatures around the engine bay? The reason I ask is that the only time the temp gauge in my car reached anything like that level was recently and it was due to a failed voltage stabiliser. Replaced it and the car ran cool again. I could tell, just by stopping and lifting the bonnet that there was nothing wrong with the engine temperature.

Long story Dave. Went through two voltage stabilizers and 4 temperature gauges - all show the same. car runs great, doesn't boil off any water. Complete overhaul of carbs, plugs and, above all, electronic ignition got the temperature down a bit but my Stag seems to run just above "N" and is happy with it.

Back to the spoiler, here are the pics:

Peter Howell of LD Parts developed a simple ‘Secret Spoiler’ some years ago, which is a Perspex device that sits behind the front bumper, to direct air flow that would normally be deflected & lost, through to the radiator, and increase its cooling ability. I fitted one several years ago, before swanning off to Italy in the high temperatures of July, and find that it does help reduce the needle position on the temperature gauge, but only when on the move. The number plate and plinth buggers up clean air flow through the front valence to the radiator, and this device helps to unbugger it. It may help if your cooling system is marginal, but I should say that it won’t cure existing problems such as silted radiator or water galleries.

Confess I thought this was all about a bear in the woods (‘soiler’)

                Not previously heard of it.

                Tried to search and see….
Nothing much came up in terms of sketches.

Did peter get the I.P. Protected?

                Are there any sketches?

There was a sketch when he had it listed but I couldn't find it when I looked recently..

Reinstalled at last. That was after readjusting the bonnet which was rubbing against the front panel unfortunately in trying to ease it forward have it a slight dent on the leading edge. Need some of those vacuum suckers.
