No, asfar as I could find out.I was advised to use 3M windscreen sealant which seals it nicely and you can just wipe of the excess with a rag and white spirits. One good tip, make sure all the holes that hold it on are ok and have not become too big for the chrome self tapers to grip on.

I thought I could remember peeling something away on the strip down. The idea that there wasn't didn't make sense to me. The capping contours just aren't that close a fit to the screen surround to prevent water tracking through. I'm going to invest in a leading edge bead of sealent at least.

Julian is correct,i use windscreen sealer, seals well and doesnt set.If you dont seal it then water gets under and leaks into the car, only when driving of course, basically any sealer that doesnt set hard should be ok.
I like the plimbers mate idea sounds perfect
As I remember it was on a cardboard drum, like that that you by cable on and it is layered on a kind of grease proof paper. There are either 4 or 6 strips of it layered side by side like thick shoe laces which you pealed off and lay and cutto length where you wanted it. It was a greyish / white colour.
Sorry I cant be of any more help but I going back over 25 years to my days as a mechanic in a Rootes dealers. (showing my age here)
