In the words of Dr Dolittle -

”Why can’t a woman be more like a man”
Having spend 3 hours in the garage struggling to remove a cylinder head I returned to the house in a jubilant mood and announced I’ve got my head off.
My wife was convinced that I was ‘off my head’ and suspected I had been drinking in the garage.
Tried to explain the problem of corrosion between dissimilar metals. The fear of shearing studs etc but she as distinctly unimpressed.

It took me three days to get my heads off .. your wife should understand and be very proud of your achievement

Took me 16 days to get the last Head bolt out , so I could use a head puller, slowly slowly catchy monkey, don't how I would have got the head off if it had snapped

Yes pleased it came off reasonably easily. I have removed heads from TR7’s a Dolly Sprint and twice on stags before and was looking forward to the job. According to records that came with the car heads were last removed 1996. All bolts and studs shoes evidence of antisieze (copper slip of similar) and they were stiff to remove even when the threads were clear but no corrosion was present. Wish that could be said of the exhaust manifold, it’s still resisting.

              Exhaust manifold removal in situ…
Needs special tiny tooling e.g. ratchets 1/4” size but with 3/8” internals fitted… snap on do them. Or did.

a swivel head 3/8” ratchet too.

              a 9/16” deep hex socket.

              plenty of release agent.

l.h side about 7minutes; r.h. Side about 20 minutes with correct tooling & a goo

head studs should have sas aluminium anti seize applied; not copper slip.

copper slip increases galvanic action & goes really sticky on the studs.
