    Car dies after 5 seconds

Re-fitted inlet manifolds, re-mounted carbs. After turning engine over on the choke a few times engine burst into life, after about 5 seconds engine died. After 3 more attempts engine started again, ran for 5 secs then came to an abrupt stop, rev counter drops to zero quicker than a quick thing. This keeps happening but will not keep running.
When I removed the carbs, I didn't disconnect anything, just moved them to one side. Any help gratefully received. Terry

    HI TERRY

Have you check the inertia switch on the bulkhead?

Check fuel pump is working? Ticking? Hit it if not

Hi Stuart, pump is ticking, I've not checked inertia switch cos I thought it would stop the car working altogether. I'll check it now, Thanks Terry

          Hi Terry

Have you attached and adjusted all the cables to the carbs correctly?

I would go back over all the pipes cable & wires and check they are all correct.

Last thing could be you disturb some dirt in the carb float chambers that may be blocking the carbs:?

Sounds like the feed to the coil via the ballast resistor is not connected.

Checked everything everybody suggested and nothing found, still stopping after about 5 secs. Looked at fuse board and found 35 amp ignition fuse blown? very strange. Replace this and Hey Presto car started and ran like a dream.

Thanks to everybody for your help, Terry

Sounds like the ignition was switched on while one of the disconnected coil wires (12v via ballast resistor) was touching the block, hence killing the fuse. The engine will start from the 12v direct from starter but will not run. A switch in the ballast feed is a good anti-theft measure as it confuses the toerags and others

                    John.

Thanks John, mines a ballast wire but I suppose I could still fit a switch. Terry
