    Canister Oil Filter Question.

    Hi all,

I am sticking with the std canister style oil filter and have a question re the Classic Gold Filters that are supplied by Robsport and others. There is no seal at either end of the filter so where the filter pushes against the block it would be metal to metal likewise where the filter is held against the pressure valve in the canister there is no rubber seal and nothing I can find online. Robsport said they fit them without any additional seals and I am happy to go ahead on this basis but I just found it suprising that there is no seal at either end. The Parts Catalogue shows some sort of seal but no part no. as I assume these would come with the filters back in the day...?

I never noticed that seal with no part no. I just place the filter.

      Chris.
There are no seals on the filters with metal ends. The ones with cardboard ends had seals stuck to them, but these sometimes came unstuck and blocked the flow of the oil with disastrous results.
It seems that a metal to metal seal using the pressure of the spring is perfectly adequate for the job.
