Is it plastic Chris? If so it could be where the fuel pipe comes up from under the car into the engine bay. There’s a short rubber connector there. Similar at the back near the back edge of the rear seat pan when it goes under the car after it emerges from the boot so it could be the bit on the boot connected to the tank. Don’t have my parts book to hand.

I am going to stick my neck out and say it doesn't come off a Stag. I know that none of mine have had one.

On my engine, the vacuum pipe you mention is much shorter, and one continuous bendy plastic tube.
And the Vacuum pipe from the Dizzy to carbs has a elbow union but is much much smaller in diameter and plastic.
The fuel line coming up the LH side bulkhead is also all plastic on mine, with an elbow, but not that shape, though it does have a pipe clip on it.
There is a pipe coming off the carb breather T pipes that has a clip on it to fasten to the engine front cover, but again mine is all plastic and not that shape as drops straight down past the crank pulley.

I'm beginning to side with Lingen/Mike - Are we going to be corrected by an expert??

My guess is that it is part of the fuel pipe from around the fuel tank area. Probably bought as a straight piece of pipe and bent accordingly. Rubber elbow on the end.

Could it be something to do with an aircon system ? I think some of the controls were vacuum operated.

I have not seen a clip like that for a line used on the Stag.

Looks like a carb vent pipe from an Austin b-series engine.
