Floor pan question

Just a quick question, the front section of the floor pan where it joins the sill has a lip, but I have noticed there is no lip on the rear section where it essentially butts up to the sill, is this correct, or has previous repairs on the sills caused the repairer to cut the lip away and not replace it properly, seems a bit odd and an easy in for water without the lip there.

This is the section where the rear passenger feet goes, not the section under the rear seat

I dont have a repair section for the rear floor pan section as its not corroded, so nothing to compare with.

I put "repair" section in the drawing but is just the floor pan in general

Sorry Kev, can't help on this one as didn't have to touch the rear floor or sill that far back on the RH side repair that I've done so far.
You can't even see when looking at repair panel images on the Bros.
But like you say, would have thought it should have a lip similar to the front repair. I'll be continuing work in the garage and if I can see on my original construction, I'll get a photo or confirm.

Cheers, you can see from underneath at the back edge of the sill, the front section has a lip, but the rear is just flat, if you could take a photo of that area would be great, I am assuming at this stage maybe another Rover bodge job, but then again, maybe its designed this way

Hi Kev

I can confirm it doesn't have a lip as seen in attached. Taken at the rear RH passenger footwell looking up at the inner sill edge with the arrows pointing at the floor panel edge you are referring to. Excuse my button welds, still to be tidied up.

This would indicate that this section of floor is simply spot welded to the flat underside of the inner sill, achievable BEFORE refitting an outer sill. I assume plenty of seam sealant and underseal was deemed sufficient too prevent water ingress.

Both sides of mine have corroded around the spot welds, so need to fabricate a new strip, I am tempted to make one with a lip, it has to be better than just flat as it is now,

There is no corrosion on the spots on the front panels, which would suggest a lip stops the rot I am seeing either side

I won't attempt any underside rust repairs until I've done the main rust points and got sufficient strength back in the body to put it on the rotisserie.

Sounds like a good plan, here are the photo's of both sides front and rear floor pans, you can see that the front floopans with the lip there is little to no rot, whereas the rear floorpans both have extensive rot along that edge and around the spot welds, water clearly getting into that seam, and most likely a cause for rot in the inner sill perhaps.

I will deffo build a lip into the repair manel I make for those floorpans
