    15 volts again

I gave the Stag some TLC today and it rewarded me by starting to over charge :X

First thing today, I took it fora spin and it was running lovely. In particular, I was pleased with the volt meter (just under 14 volts) as my other toy appears to have a difficult to locate earth problem...

I changed a couple of things and the only thingconnected with the electrics was when I disconnected the coil to turn the engine over to get the new oil circulated. Taking it out for a run tonight and the volt meter was hard right, on the 15 volts, on anything but tick-over. Can running the car without the main feed to the disti affect the regulator/alternator or is it a co-incidence?

I changed the alternator about 4 or 5 years ago because of over-charging. That is probably only8-10k miles, so hopefully it doesnt need a new one already.

    Any ideas?

Hi Graham - before worrying too much i'd check the actual voltages with a decent voltmeter rather than rely on the dash one ...... turning the engine over without the coil connected shouldn't mess with the alternator.

      Hi Graham,

My volt meter has a will of it's own, after putting a meter on the car and checking what it's actually doing a few times now I just ignore it.

My volt clock sometimes read nearly 15v when Ichecked witha good quality multi meter the actual reading was 13.8v. So as said ignore the volt clock.

        Sukh.
