Heat Resistant paint and primer

The question is - does Heat Resistant Paint require a primer? I was planning on doing my brake drums tomorrow with the HRP, having primed them today. So I was just reading the can for the HRP and see that they'll need to spend an hour in the oven to cure. Oooops, what will that do to the primer? Do I need to strip the primer off again, or will it all work out ok? IMG_3880.jpg

Sorry to say you will need to start again without the primer as it will not allow the heat resistant paint to cure and bond with the heat.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. It's just a shame that paint strippers aren't what they used to be.

The hour in the oven may not be necessary. According to the VHT paint I just used it will cure OK so long as it’s not heated rapidly, I suppose the drums will not heat so fast.
And another thing, I did put my VHT painted cam cover in the oven at 220c - took a week
to get the stink out of the kitchen, I was not popular 🤡

The way I read it is that rapid heating will damage it before it is cured. But it's immaterial now, in 5 mins I switch the oven off. I am also fortunate in that I don't have to share my kitchen.

not so sure that I am brave enough to put car parts in the Oven. Mrs would go friggin nuts, even more so than when she found a cylinder head in the dishwasher

Dishwasher is a great parts washer. Two tablets, hot wash and only when she is out for at least 4 hours.....the extra hour or so is insurance in case I need to wash the parts washer 😱

Unfortunately I have never invested in a dishwasher - it would have made cleaning my carburettors last month a lot easier.
