    Rear Hub Flange Runout

    Hi All,

I had a pair of refurbished hubs from Paddocks. I noticed that the rear wheels have runout when we were running the engine in on the rolling road. So I checked the alloys then the brake drums and finally the hub flages and found that one has .65mm (25 thou) of run out. The other is less at about .3mm (13 thou) I took a couple of videos at the request of Paddocks that they sent to their supplier. The supplier has said that they feel this is acceptable and within tolerance, and that they won't have any more Rear hubs for 6 months anyway and if they do they reckon they will have the same or similar run nout !!!

To be fair to Paddocks they have offered me a full refund (so I don't think they agree with their supplier either)

here is a video I sent to Paddocks. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/PrYz8E-tLiU

As mentioned on the phone Chris, that is just appalling, fair play to paddocks.

Be interesting to measure the run out at the rim. be like a clown car

An inch !!, that's horrendous & not servicable. It probably got bent by disassembley for new bearings.

Have you still got your orginal hubs ?.

I would not trust that hub. The parts would not have been manufactured to those tolerances, so I would bet something got bent when pressing it apart. Or perhaps the wrong sized key?

I had one from another reputable supplier that failed after a couple of thousand miles, when I stripped that for rebuild I noticed the shaft was bent. Not by a lot, but enough to destroy the outer wheel bearing. I’ve just reviewed your video - that’s abysmal! They must be having a laugh if they think that’s within tolerance.

Maybe that’s his name or where he resides.

The on car skim sounds good….
The 0.65mm runout sounds like a big over stress may have been employed to separate the hub at you know who’s.

willing to help rebuild some s/h hubs….

imho the ££££ ccd hubs / cv joints are not essential….

just a bit of sensible rebuilding of original items…..

Gord / Barton stag just did some…. With the splitter and spanners from me.

Im on the 4th set of those now…. Due to previous non returns

So update on this. Having seen a few posts on FB with pics of a stag with a missing rear wheel after fitting a recon hub I have decided for peace of mind to fit CVs just had them delivered look very nice (and strong) oh and straight ! Apparently Fitchetts are not supplying any recon hubs until they have had new stub axles made. Read into that what you will...

Perhaps using a press brake isn’t all that sensible to separate…

Yikes… I have one from there on my car.

fitted Before I made my own splitting tool.
