I 100% sympathise with shipping costs across the planet.
<snip>
I wonder now if it might be cheaper to take the parcel as overside luggage on a direct flight than use the usual shipping agents.
Many, many years ago in the early dawn of the world, I was involved in the beginnings of the Apple Macintosh computer. We found that, because of the exchange rate of the pound sterling -vs- the US dollar, it was cheaper to book a return airfare from London to New York, buy an Apple Mac in the USA and bring it back to the UK as a carry-on. Some years later I discovered that it was much cheaper to bring a large colour monitor from the USA to England as excess baggage ($75) than by shipping it for $270.

Perhaps those days have returned?
Shopping in the USA was cheap for us until about 2015… almost parity now.
just before then it was $1.6 to £1
Lunch at work then was $ 4.50; now $ 14
last gallon of weed killer I bought at the builders merchants was £11.
Now it’s banned a gallon is £55
Car insurance went up 63% today, yes I tried shopping around… to no avail.
But don’t worry, inflation is now back under cuntrol
Just two days ago I tried to order some parts from the USA which aren't made this side of the Atlantic. The goods were $100 in total and I was quoted $70 for shipping and $40 for import duty and VAT - the tax is charged on the shipping fee as well. I didn't place the order.
