    Seats...

    Hi All,

After spending some time in the driving seat of the Stag, l am struggling a bit. I am quite a large chap weighing 20 stone and 6ft and find it quite uncomfortable. I have seen a pair of Mercedes SLK Seats being used in a stag and whilst I acknowledge they dont look correct for the car they do look comfortable and are a couple of inches lower than the standard seats. Does anyone else have alternative seats they can recommend ?

I use MK1 MGF leather seats.
They don't tilt very easily but as I don't have back seats that's not an issue for me (rear seat area converted to storage space).

I’ve got a pair of XJS seats Chris. Super comfy. They came with rails that need some modification as the seats currently sit too close to the b pillar.

other options. Mx5, fiat coupe, fiat 147 I think.

I use Hyundai Coupe seats, including modified rear seat. The shoulder of the seat sometimes rubs on the B post which is ok for me at 5'10", but perhaps not for someone 6ft.

Audi TT Mk1 seats in mine, black leather with a headrest.
Minor edit to the TT rails to fit.
They have a bit of fowward tilt but not as much as standard.
Seem to sit at a similar height to standard.
I'm only 5'11" and I can push them back so my feet don't touch the pedals.

edit - ref the B-post. I placed an M8 or M10 (can't remember) nut between the rail and the car to tiit the seat just enough to clear it.

At 6'1" and closer to 17-stone than I should be, I have never found the Stag seats to be uncomfortable. Indeed, I can drive for longer without discomfort than I can in my modern car, which has a bigger range of adjustment including lumbar support. I will be putting the Stag seats to the comfort test again tomorrow on a 250-mile drive.

I have similar.. mine had integral heaters which I fitted and are a great addition for top down driving in the winter. Modifications for fitting are pretty minor as the rails are the same width as the original seats. These are pretty comfy, we sat on them (and slept on them) for the 48 hours of the rbrr without any ill effects.

I fitted rover 200 tomcat seats to my stag yonks ago. very comfy initially but then after a longer drive I found them to be almost exactly the opposite. Mainly because (and so long as we are all not bodyshaming) 6'3.5" and a smeg over 17stone at the time. The seats were too high. I ended up retrimming / repadding / refurbishing a set of stag front seats and found them to be proper comfy. Did a few 200mile plus trips and was convinced. don't know what I am trying to say except seat height was my issue

I was somewhat in awe of Goldstar XJS seats though.

I haven't considered wiring up the heaters - where have you put the switches and which switches did you use?

I found stag seats super comfortable.
Slightly Spendy to properly refurbish now

the only long journey seats I found to be really comfortable…. But wouldn’t fit a stag probably were Rover 800; Mercedes W124 (superb but heavy) and Toyota Yaris (Japanese made version not European)

have tried the others mentioned here, but not xjs…yet.

original stag seats seem really comfortable to me.

cant help thinking that box-pleat are the pinnacle of car seat comfort…. Mercedes, Rover & Citroen all utilised box-pleat.

I find my rebuilt Stag seats to be the most comfortable of all the cars I've used, which includes BMW, Mercedes, Alvis, Peugeot, Citroen, Mazda, Ford, Triumph, Toyota and others. I'm fairly average 5'10" 13-stone and the only modification I'd do to the Stag seat is to give more lumbar support, which I'll probably do by tilting the seat rails up at the front, before my epic 3,000-mile European tour next Summer.

We successfully completed a 250-mile trip from Exeter to Liverpool yesterday. Stopped for coffee and cake at Gloucester services (100 miles) and again for lunch at Knutsford services. A detour to visit the house and gardens at Dunham Massey before facing the M62 into Liverpool. Seats coped with my bulk very well.

Found this Alfa Romeo 4C parked next to my Stag when we returned to it at Gloucester Services. Very nice looking car, but no way could we have carried two suitcases, a large hold-all, beach bag and coats in the boot of the Alpha.

I always stop at Gloucester Services when I’m up that way; their sausage rolls are brilliant. Probably explains why we share a similar physique!

I always used to use Reading services. A 7.00am start from Stansted put me there at breakfast time for a full English from EDC. However I find now that most service stations have gone down hill, all they do now is burger and chips and roadtar coffee. Thank goodness for the internet and it is quite easy to take a short detour of virtually any motorway junction to find a decent eatery.
