    WIper wheelbox failure

Had a job to do on Buttercup - replacing the passenger side wiper wheelbox, which had developed a lot of play and was on the verge of failing completely. (after 51 years of service).

An absolute pig of a job to do with the whole dash in situ, but just about do-able if armed with a good knowledge of swear words, and are prepared to lose approx 50% of the skin off one forearm. Most of it has to be done by feel as there is just no direct access.

Two hours to get the old one out, (including withdrawing the drive rack from its tube, so wiper motor dismantled, too) another hour to get the new one in. Right I thought, I'll check it out before putting the glovebox (removed for access) etc. back together and cleaning up. All looked good until I re-attached the wiper arm - then, without the wiper even resting on the windscreen surface, the new wheelbox sheared its connection between the drive gear and the shaft.

Appalling quality, and now I have to do it all over again with another part from a different supplier. I have run out of swear words. Effing annoyed doesn't begin to cover it.

Pretty much 100% of the time I would work with UOS rather than new reproduction. And always be wary of NOS new old stock.
