    Oh yes, there are some terrible oil filters around. I have seen the analyses too - frightening. I always use the Mann item DJT mentions above.


    I haven't seen any spin-on conversions (and I bought mine 12 years ago) that don't have the sliding inner member that takes up tolerances in seal thickness, so the potential bypass issue you mention isn't a problem for me. I misunderstood - thought it was the built-in bypass valve in most all spin-on cansiter filters that you were thinking about, my bad.
    Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.
