    Battery drain

    Going madder than usual. Stag 's battery is draining . Cant find out where from. If I disconnect the neg from battery and meter this back to body I get 12 v Have disconnected Alternator all fuses out . I have an electric fan which has been disconnected. Fuse to EWP removed. Can not my get head around this at all. If any of you wizards out there can help I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL.

    Hello Mike,

    Have you taken the keys out of the ignition? There’s an accessory position on the ignition switch, which could be the cause of your battery drain. Do you have an alarm and immobiliser fitted? Maybe a starting point.

      Lamps in glovebox or boot not turning off when the lid is shut?

        Thanks both. Have isolated glove box boot and cigar lighter Cant trace it at all. Even isolated alternator. EWP. Electric fan.
        Am I testing this correctly ? earth off battery, meter from battery to body showing 12 plus v..

          Pull all the fuses and put them back one at a time and see where it leads you.

            Using a voltmeter is no use for finding an issue like this. Items like the clock and / or radio will show 12v the way you are testing.
            With negative lead off, you need to measure current flow from battery negative to negative lead.

              Do you have an ammeter setting on your meter? If so, disconnect the positive (+ve, red) terminal on the battery. Set the meter to the highest current range. Connect the meter between the disconnected +ve terminal on the battery and the disconnected +ve lead and see what current is flowing. The current will give an idea of what is causing the problem. So, if it is say 0.1 A then that equates to 1.2 W (a small indicator bulb).

                Last time this happened on a local members car it turned out it was the boot lamp staying on.

                found it after a few other parts were replaced and still drained battery.
                There are 2 secrets to staying on top :- 1. Don't give everything away.

                    Yes the ammeter seems the way to go. connect as you mentioned then disconnect fuses...etc until I get no flow. Will give it a go.

                      I had one car where the battery would drain over 2-3 weeks and it turned out to be the radio. One side is permanently live so station memory isn’t lost. Battery wasn’t in the best condition which didn’t help

                        OK back on it. I do not understand electrics at all.... Witchcraft. Anyway set my meter to 200 things with ignition control fuse out showing 80 things. With fuse in showing 200 things . So obviously some of this is the radio. Just wondering if I have the correct battery. Its a Hankook 12v 62AH 20 Hr 110 Min RC 540A EN. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks again in advance,
