    Electric power steering Rack

I have been informed by my garage after speaking with them about changing my power steering rack as its leaking oil, they have told me that a lot of stags are changing over to the electric steering rack is this true.
Also has anybody done this and is it as good as the old rack

I've never heard of an electric rack being fitted, I wouldn't think there is room for one either.

Electric steering columns, then yes have heard of the odd one being fitted, although, again there isn't much room for that in the footwell / behind dash.

Have your existing one rebuilt, would be cheaper.

No just get a replacement steering rack quicker and easier, if your doing the work yourself you could replace the seals

Ive fitted an electric steering column to my Sprint but theres a lot of machining to be done to get it to fit

Trying to recall his username but John up in Scotland has done it using a Corsa steering column. I think he had to turn it upside down or similar to get it to work.

I think your mechanic is stretching the reality when he told you “lots of stags have been converted”

Hands up for the Corsa system. It needed a rack out of a left hand model, the right hand rack turned the wheels the opposite way (answers why on a postcard). I haven't heard of an electric rack, the Corsa system was a motorised steering column, and these conversions bring their own challenges beyond fitting the system. mounting column switches, shrouds etc is where the troubles lie.
My electric system was good, and I preferred the Rover 45 column switches which I adapted and fitted, but I think selling on the car with that modification would have been a step too far.
I have reverted back to the Stag rack, but using an electric hydraulic steering pump out of a Volvo, using AN hydraulic fittings which make it far easier to have a leak free system.

Afaiaa most viable systems are column not rack.

I know that mgf / Mgtf had a rack mounted EPAs.

that won’t fit on a stag.

            column mounted systems are available

            doesnt floating my boating.

apologies for the awful predicament text on this portal.

it’s demonstrated how terrible this technology really is …. Ironically.

even my Waze navigation gets left and right mixed up.

some humour intended…. Or was that humor?

Thank you for the reply's, I think I will stick with the Hydraulic rack.
I just need to find a good company that does a good job, again I've read and heard that some recons are not up to standard and don't last long.
