is the Sprint gearbox and Stag gearbox interchangeable?
is the Sprint gearbox and Stag gearbox interchangeable?
I'm aware the TR6 gearbox looks the same, but machined different based on its layshaft. I'm aware the Sprint gearbox also shares the similar layshaft as the 6. But just wondering.
My stag had a sprint gearbox on it when I got it. Main difference was the output flange was drilled to accept the bolts for to propshaft and i think the flange itself didnt fit the prop flange 100%. I have since swapped it out of a proper stag box.

I've got a stripped down Sprint box in uk. I have a chunk of gearbox broken off a Stag box here in USA. I don't want to regret having the box tossed out.
The Sprint box has a smaller diameter input shaft so needs a different clutch plate. The layshaft has plain thrust washers rather than roller bearings, and the layshaft is a slightly smaller diameter at one end than the Stag box.
Very similar to the Saloon and TR boxes internally, they use different input shafts for different applications.
Probably slightly weaker in the layshaft than the Stag box, but my 256bhp Mk1 uses a very early Triumph 2000 box with a Stag input shaft fitted. (It came like that as a non overdrive box and I fitted a J type overdrive). I have a proper Stag box if it breaks, but it has withstood about 10 years of abuse now without problems and is still on its original layshaft and bearings
