Keeping the Stag, but in long term storage

So decided to keep the Stag, its not worth getting rid of considering the money I have already spent on it, and the time, for the peanuts it seems I will get for it, so found some storage.

The only issue is the storage is a caravan storage centre, and it will be stored outside, so a question

How to protect the bare metal shell from rusting, of course I will put a cover over it, but any suggestions of anything to apply to the metal to stop, or slow rusting, oil, oil mixed with something, or some other option.

I will say that after it was dipped, a protective coat of some chemical was applied to it, but I dont know how long that will last, especially if the car is outside

    Cheers

    Kev,

After storing a number of cars outside, i would really consider indoor storage at the stage you are at if its going to be up to a year and you can stretch to the cost. You've done all the hard work already!

Outdoor storage in winter is tough on cars.

Otherwise i'd use paint compatible with what you are going to top-coat it with after removing any surface rust. Weld through primer on hard to clean areas you will be welding to in future.

I'd avoid oils if it was me. reaction when welding and painting later.

Hope it helps and good luck

I would consider a coat of epoxy, it sticks well and is pretty tough. You can put filler over it when you get back to that stage I have Always used it as a base coat and never had issues,

I already well sprayed it with 2 to 1 oil/diesel mix (seemed what a lot of people use searching youtube), and completely covered in wrap, will get a car cover too, but also thinking to buy a portable car garage tent to put it in.

Defo a good idea, next best thing to indoor storage. keep dry air circulating by opening doors on dry warmer days

Just bought this, just big enough, will put a tarp on the floor first before I move the car in

Glad you changed your mind Kevin. Make sure you tie that sucker down really well. I would use 3 or 4 ratchet straps sober the top stokes into the ground as well as the guy ropes it comes with. Ask me how I know

                  Hi Kev,
I am glad you changed your mind too, when I picked mine up from the first paint removal/dip I sprayed the whole shell and in the boxed sections with a mixture of engine oil/white spirits, the white spirits was mixed to thin the oil so that I could spray it through one of the plastic garden pump up and spray units which I did on the side of the road before bringing it back.
                  welding was not an issue.

Thanks Paul, yes I can just put it to the side now and come back to it when I want, I think it should hold up pretty well with the engine oil/diesel mix, wrapped in packing cellophane, car cover over the top, and then parked in a tent.

                    Time will tell I guess

Hope to see yours on the road soon

                          Store it in a Permabag.
Completely isolated and sealed from the elements.
I bought one to store my Stag when I built a new garage, with a tarpaulin sheet over the top more to keep the bird **** off the permabag.
in goes in clean and dust free, and comes out the same.
Easily sold the Permabag after building the garage.

A bit pricey though, nearly a grand for outdoor bag, good idea though

think my tent, the stag covered in oil, wrapped in packing film, and covered with a car cover should be fine, moving it tomorrow, will post a pic when its in its new home

So thats it, all stored, 20 bags of sand, and plenty of ropes holding the tent down, not sure how it will perform if we gets lots of snow, but not seen much snow around here for years. Not sure how long i will store it for, or if indeed I will keep, but at least pressure is off now.

Booked a relaxing week on a narrow boat and taking my Mom from this Friday to chill out a bit.
