    Wipers oddity (a different one!)

My car was stripped to a bodyshell and after I rebuilt it using the same wiper motor, rack, wheelboxes and wiper arms I now find that the blades are over-wiping. They travel about 10 degrees more than needed, so the LH one goes over the trim and the RH one slaps the screen pillar. Obviously, that's with a wet screen in the rain - I've been out in two rainstorms this last week on Tuesday and Thursday. I'm pretty sure the wiper sweep was okay before the rebuild but I can't puzzle out what can have changed.

    Any ideas?

    Mole.
Are they over-wiping in both directions? If not then the arms probably just want re-setting. Try this way. Remove both arms. then operate the wiper motor. and allow it to park. Then refit the arms in the park position and try again.
If either of them still travels too far, run them, and switch off the ignition when it reaches the "Over run" point. Then remove the arm, and replace it where it ought to be. Repeating this process should get them both wiping correctly again.

        Hi Mike, & Richard,

I'm not sure if they are over-wiping in both directions, it's just something I noticed while driving on the M4 in horrible rain. I haven't fully investigated yet, I think the LH wiper could easily move right by a notch to cure that one from going off the LH edge, but the drivers panto wiper seems to wipe from the lower edge of the screen right around past the door pillar. I'll check some more and report back.

Could it be that the wheel boxe gearings are slightly different and that you have placed them on the oposite side than before, the nearside wiper could probably take a longer sweep than the offside without striking the A post or screen base edge.

Had similar issues. My thread on this is issue is on this site. Turned out the wiper gears were from a TR not a stag.
