Could be a tired flasher unit. Have you tried replacing it? There are electronic ones available which are supposed to be the dogs wotsits, but I haven't tried them. I have no problems with a 'heavy duty' unit I bought years ago from the local car accessories shop. Check all your earths are good. Could be one giving high resistance.

My Stag is using the electronic flasher unit from an oldRover 214 - had it kicking around afterI changed a fuse/relay box in a mates car for him. All you need to do is add one earth wire to the unit to make it work and you get wonderfully even flash rate whatever might be switched on - no more 'frozen' flashers at night.

If you want to know how it's wired, let me know.

Even new flasher units can be dodgy nowadays - I believe it's because that they are no longer being manufactured in the UK and quality control is iffy - the hotwire units are quite sensitive to shock as well- that's why I decided to use the genuine Lucas electronic relay from that scrap Rover fusebox when my indicators just stopped.

Plus as I had it hand and it cost me nowt

:dude: hi kryten, you could be right about rubbish gear. i seem to be having a bit of electrical problems at the moment. dull dashboard lights, indicators, must be due to poor earth . i will clean up all earth wires i can find. oh by the way i have found my front side winkers are not wired up.paul

Good luck Paul - you'll need it! Car electrics are such an odd discipline - I did them for enough years to know they never do what you think they will - anyway if I can help I will - just think yourself very lucky it's not an old Lada..... I was asked a very long time ago to sort some 'leccy faults out and that's when I found that every wire in the car was pink, and the tracer was a paint dab at the end of the wire - and the paint falls off after 2 years......... ended up making loads of harness from scratch:shock:

You'll have to get the Stag upstairs then..... or maybe get it to somewhere that's higher ground and safe from other dangers.

We're really lucky here - zero flood risk, but my hopes are with you that you aren't affected and escape damage.

Second thoughts, maybe the wife wouldn't be too pleased to have the Stag in the bedroom - maybe you are like me and are accused by "she who must be obeyed" of loving my Stag more than her.................

:dude: hi russ, i am really lucky , she was the one who picked the stag, had to look nice, be big enough to take some kids in the back, and she would not be embarrassed to be seen in it, {last car was a 1948Austin sixteen } she would only go out in it ,because she would have to stay at home alone!!.
