Old git struggling with reattaching disc caliper

Having at last managed to remove and then refit the inner and outer wheel bearings, I am being frustrated by the difficulty reattaching the brake caliper. Each time I think I get into where it should be the back plate dust shield stops me winding in the bolt.
should I:
1. Undo the nuts/ bolts holding the plate, and refit after?
2. use emery paper to give slightly easier installation for bolts?
3. Should I lightly grease the bolt or use copper ease?

Incidentally I thought putting back together would be easy

I'm sure that most crack off the other bolts so the back plate will move slightly, so you can line up the hole , or you may spend ages try to put something down the bolt hole to push the plate one side or the other, a right pain. as you push the caliper on the plate moves

if I am wrong someone will correct me, but that's what I did last time, found one here.

Yup, I also cracked the strut bolts

Mind you don't literally crack any of them. They will snap if you overdo it with the socket set. Try a bit of heat or penetrating oil if they won't budge. If you do snap one off you will have to remove the vertical link to get it drilled out.

Thanks guys. I will apply liberal coats of penetrating oil, retire for morning coffee and try again. My knees are complaining this evening!

Partial success. Number two son and me spent several evenings trying to persuade the caliper pins eventually persuading the bottom one to get in. At this point i called in the professional Stag expert who completed the whole job in about 40 minutes. Amazing what can be done with all the right tools. The car is now cleaned and polished and ready. I have added to my Christmas tool wish list
