    Grand Tour Season 6

Expected the Stag to be put down, but as it turned out it was only car not to break. Amazing scenery and footage and who could not think the Stag was the best looking car.

It was amazing publicity for the Stag, and perhaps may put a stop to the boring snide comme.
How about an honorary Club membership for James May? After all, he is now a Stag owner.

Yes James May at the start of the journey seemed to be chuffed to bits with his Stag, next time I'm at a car show and some clever arse walks past and says to their partner the Stags always overheated and broke down even when new can be told to politely shut up and go watch James May drive across Africa without missing a beat in a Triumph Stag!!

I saw today that Hammond has it at his resto business.

Looks like it could be a great opportunity for some high profile publicity for the Stag.
Drive a Stag every day... it's wonderful!

It was beautifully shot and the Stag was by far the best out of them. Premium price paid, which was also good to hear. I wonder where they obtained the car?

I drive mine here in the Texas heat (110°F) with no problems; that's ~43+°C in your money.

Re the point above by JeffW about where did they get the cars, here's a link to a site that has done the background research: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xheNA0etix0

Some really great publicity for the Stag there. I drive mine on 40 degree C days here in Australia with no problems at all, and it has no 'upgrades' to the cooling system.

Thanks! I wonder if the car was ever owned by someone on here and I wonder who did the original restoration Oscar mentions. In any event, so good to help stamp out the tiresome overheating crap.

EDIT: No real surprise, it was restored at Faverhsam:

On such trips I understand they have with them a specialist who is familiar with the car incase of breakdowns. With a good selection of spare parts. Was this the case with this trip?

They had a mechanic but not a stag specialist. Those of you who knew Russ (Kryten) on here won’t be surprised to know he was on call to help. From what he told me the stag performed as well as the show portrays and only had one issue (cooling) caused by a radiator that started to leak (probably after all that washboard road).

Nice to see they didn’t mutilate the cars too much (for once) and also that the Stag clearly has a lot better ground clearance than the other two. Researchers were a bit lazy with the daft statement that few Stags still have their original engines.

Shame the car didnt get a bit more explanation and coverage (I was hoping James May would have raved about the overdrive). But all in all very good, especially as it proved the most reliable of the three, which is probably why it seemed to get the least coverage.

Saw some background about the stag.
Apparently before the last sale (£28k) it had a spendy restoration….. over £50k.
