Fuel Pickup

Hi guys it’s me again! Is there a fuel pickup in the tank? Or does the fuel just get sucked out by the pump?

Yes there is a pickup pipe that goes to the bottom of the tank and yes, the pump sucks it up through that pipe.

Thanks for that. Is there anyway I can clean the pickup? I’ve been peering through the fuel level sender hole and there is what appears to be swarf in the bottom of the tank I’ve managed to get some of it with a magnet but I’m thinking there may be more either in or around the pickup?

Yes, unscrew the nut holding the pipe in, it has an olive on. The pipe should just pull out, it's probably nearly a foot long.
I think it comes out with the tank in situ but can't be 100% sure.

You will need to remove the four screws holding the tank down - the pickup pipe won't come all the way out unless you tilt the tank a little because the top of the pipe fouls on the bodywork. If the car has ben out of use for a while it's probably worth taking the tank out for a wash around with some paraffin to get any crud out. Also check the bottom for rust damage - mine has a brazed bottom plate fitted !

Hi NeilR Thanks for your input. So should I just undo the nut and pull the tube out? Is it just a tube or does it have a gauze filter on the bottom?
