I stand corrected - having spoken to my Son in Law over lunch today, he reminded me that there was indeed a Chequers in Marden, it became the Lady Jane and is now The Taj Indian Restaurant (Highly Recommended)
I wonder how many people know the origin of the name of many Chequers Pubs?
It is said to originate from the Wild Service Tree which is abundant in the area whose bark is of a chequer board appearance
What a mine of useless information we all are - where did we start - Fuel Consumption? - Just had mine with a nice Pinot Grigio
