An unscientific guess would be 202kg (446lb) minus 30kg for cylinder heads, 10kgs for carbs and inlet manifold, 10kg for exhaust manifold and 5 kg for starter motor so 152kg?

dasadrew provided these numbers a few years back https://socforum.com/forum/forum/sta...-heads-and-aux

From this post a bare block is apparently 64kg, pistons and crankshaft another 25. Hard to see how you get to 150 from there using my logic but I guess, in the end, it depends what is attached to your short engine. If it’s to calculate shipping I would use Drew’s list it seems like it will be cheaper

Thanks for that I have to transport a number of short motors and I don't want to overload the van.

I have the opportunity to fit a sump baffle while I'm waiting for a replacement short engine. Has anyone seen a design/ location for a sump baffle?

I use a flat plate welded into the sump pan at the depth of the shallow front half of the sump. Simply leave cut outs for the oil pump pick up pipe and the dipstick. There is a picture of the one I did for my Mk1 on page 17 of the Flying Farmers new project thread.

I think the page numbers on any lengthy thread differs depending on what device and OS you are using. Anyway, for the avoidance of doubt, Neil is referring to post no. 242 on his project thread.

Page numbers depend on how you have set your settings. Go to your Profile => User Settings => Account. Select the number of posts per page from the drop down menu. Setting it at 40ppp (my setting) post 242 is on p7.

Just an update to close the loop. The replacement engine with Toyota Corona pistons is in the car and running. I managed to find replacement +40 Thou Toyota Corona piston rings from a supplier in Aussie.
I did have to pocket the cylinder crowns to avoid valve/piston interaction. I only learned this after the loud tapping on start up which caused me to remove the heads again, I did a compression test and one piston was 40 Psi low. One replacement exhaust valve later and the engine is running very smoothly. Idling at 600rpm and so quiet I keep thinking it's stalled when I come to a stop. Oil pressure, with a new oil pump is consistent at 40-45 Psi. It doesn't vary much cold to hot or at higher RPM but I'm keeping it below 3000 rpm while I run in the new rings.
The engine was fitted with wider bearing shells which I'm told likely came out of a Ford Cortina, they were in such good shape I re-used them.
Next I'll be taking it to a dyno to get the mixture on the Weber checked after it's run-in for a while. I'm sure the old engine was running a bit lean (based on plug colour). Which may have contributed to the failure.
I did install a sump baffle as per Flying Farmers post. At first I thought that was the source of the tapping until a stethoscope pointed me to the cylinder head for No.4.
