Hi all, just researching which gaskets to go for so many options and a bit confusing. I have always had good service from Robsport, so I’m looking at extra thick head gaskets Geg3305-020 and inlet Ajm689/90 kit new and improved design option. But have also read that it’s best to have inlet gaskets with slit along bottom so if they do leak it goes into the v rather than into exhaust making you think head gaskets have failed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated cheers Steve.

Cylinder head and inlet gaskets

The BGH head gaskets with the silicone seal around the outside are thicker than standard, but as most cylinder heads by now have been faced, that is why they were made that way. They are also of much better quality than some others that are available, and will not leak water out around the edge of the block. A not unusual problem.
The inlet manifold gaskets with the splits are the ones Triumph designed for the engine. A nice idea, but not so good in practice as it weakens them in the critical water port area.
Personally, I have always used the solid ones, and if the faces they fit between are absolutely parallel, and a good non-silicone sealer is used, you should have no trouble with them.
Mike.
