    Triumph 2500 grotty sill

    Sorry for hijacking the forum on a non-Stag topic, but I would be grateful for a bit of advice. I have found a 2500 PI MK 2 which has sat in a garage for 20 years..... The engine turns over but will of course need reconditioning, the interior is lovely, the bodywork looks sound all round and no sign of holes in the floorpans, boot floor, engine bay etc.

    The underside looks OK, although there is quite a lot of rust everywhere, and notably one section of sill is completely gone but only in one place (looks like the jacking point). Globally I think the car is saveable, it will not be expensive to buy, I know I can manage replacing brakes, bushes & other perishables, and I would like to have a go at the welding myself.

    I know it is hard to tell from photos, but for those with bitter experience do you think the underside is salvageable, or would you run a mile?

    There’ll be more inside but I’d buy it in a heartbeat if it’s cheap. Probably a patch to get it strong enough or do awhile sill to do it properly. I think it’s the same as a stag and you have to take the bottom of the wing off but I may be wrong.

      It's a PI - buy it now or tell me where it is and I'll buy it. There'll be a full sill rebuild to do but that's not too hard and all three sections are available. Probably will need outriggers and rear spring platforms too.

        Thank you, I shall screw my courage to the sticking place and buy the PI. If the missus gets out her largest frying pan you will be more than welcome to take it off my hands at cost!

              Correct and is known as South Wales Triumph (I think) but a Dogpile search will get you there. Also Chris Witor but I don't think he is listing much in panel parts.
              Good luck and keep us posted. The Triumph2500Register is the url to sign up to and some very knowledgeable bods on there.

                  I'd get it. Had one for a couple of years a while back. My family's favourite classic. Also used it for my uncle and cousin to do the round British reliability run in it.
                  club triumph have a large following for the saloon. Good place for info and advice.

                    If It has gone quiet it must be fairly recent. Check the post dates to see how relevant but even if it has gone quiet there will be a wealth of historical posts.
                    In hindsight I guess the reason it has gone quiet is that I've not been on for at least three or four months now! ;-)

                          Thank you for all the advice it is much appreciated. I am making progress. Just have to get the carte grise registration doc. May take a while (as well as a clairvoyant) as PO has sadly popped his clogs some time ago. Still no hurry, wife can frying pan me to death after Christmas. Will definitely join TR register as I am going to need to learn A Team welding skills!

                            That looks the business FrenchStag should be a fun project to undertake whilst the 5th republic collapses into it's own footprint. Good luck with the Carte Gris, if the French system is anything like DVLA then you will be faced with a random wall of bureaucracy.

                            Customer faced a similar situation with a 1970s Range Rover, ran into a brick wall of a shrug and "L'ordinateur dit non". Seriously considered exporting / reimporting the car to UK, declaring NOVA get it registered in the UK and then reimported / export to France
