soft top zip care

I’ve been in the habit - once a year or so - of putting a bit of Vaseline on the zip of my soft top to help it along. I’m just wondering if others do anything similar and if there’s anything better than Vaseline for this sort of lube job?

Hello Dylan,

I think Vaseline (or anything that stays wet or sticky) may attract and retain dirt & grit, thereby making a nuisance of itself over time. I use a dry silicone based spray at the start of each season, and use a can with a nozzle that squirts it precisely on the teeth and closure thingy.

I came across this Gummi Pflege Stift when I had a squeaky soft top on my Mercedes. Brilliant stuff, I use it on Stag seals to regenerate them and on the soft top zip. Google it and its sold on Ebay & Amazon.

Zip Wax ???

4b pencil, draw it up and down the teeth of the zip. operate the zip and it lubes it up with the graphite powder

also works with swish curtain runners
