    Map Light Hole Stag Badge

Decided to cover the map light hole in my glovebox lid. Never going to have a map light in my Restomod Stag.

Used the STAG badge which just covers the hole and is held on by a couple of stainless steel screws.

It also sort of made up for the removal of the Stag name that was on the original steering wheel boss now that I have an aftermarket steering wheel.

I also fitted a glovebox pull handle to make it easier to open the glovebox lid for access to my AC parts.

If not mistaken that badge looks like the one which goes on the rear side for Fed. Stags. They are not cheap. I too put a pull on both my Stags. Later I found a better lock and the pull was not needed for one Stag. with age the locks get tired.

      What Resto-Mods have you made?

Yes it is the Fed Stag badge which luckily was wide enough to cover the hole.

I have done a few mods as listed in the previous post Restomod Stag. Never attached a link before so not sure if this was the correct way.

After 5 years of rolling repairs/rust removal she finally has a new coat of paint. Will try to add the chrome windscreen trim as well as adding a Usb charger and hazard warning switch, that should finish off the changes as it will be my daily drive very soon. Happy with the painted bumpers which I tucked in closer to the body

You say you used a different lock, do you have details?
          Thanks Alan

Put me down for that info as well, my lock push button worked ok before I decided to refurb the dash varnish. It's now all back together but I have to use the key to drag the lid down 😡

I looked into this previously, and found this finger pull part 609463 as used on Triumph TR's. Spend hours trying to get the glovebox lid to drop open as it should and eventually gave up - but then installed a different dashboard and the lid opened perfectly first time - no idea why, one of life's great mysteries. So having bought this part mine's now stored in the shed. It's quite widely available and not hard to find using Google, not expensive either. I believe the hole in the glovebox lid may need careful modification, but the finger pull should fit onto the existing latch. I think other people have done this too.

PS I seem to remember seeing a Stag on YouTube with a finger pull made of a piece of vinyl.

Alan. I got a similar lock maybe off another Stag or other Triumph model. The finger pull is found on TR4s I have a YouTube video on one I installed. I did modify it a bit and had to trim a bit of the dash to get it to fit.

I used a finger pull from a TR6 (I think), and it was an easy fit, with just minor fettling of the dash hole to allow it to fit snugly between the lock and the wood.

Yes that is what I used (TR6 part), just needed to grind some of the glovebox material (at the rear) from around the latching part of the lock to ensure it engages and secures the box lid.

Good info. My glove box lid has only ever been in one of two states, falls open if I drive over a bug or need a key.

Nice one chaps, appreciate the info. It looks like a cheap fix and doesn't look to obtrusive.

Finger pull also found in the Herald. As said simple to fit. Makes you wonder why Triumph didn’t fit them as standard.

I went one stage further and modified it so is sat further out . easier to grab on to. The alternative is to find a better lock, but I haven't figured out how to take it apart with out damage to match the original glove box key
